Blood work and lab testing make it possible for Dr. Richard Welch and the other providers at Doctors Diet Program to gain a comprehensive view of our patients' health. Using this information, we can custom-tailor each diet and wellness plan to ensure every patient's nutritional needs are met and promote sustainable, healthy weight loss.

Our practice offers the following lab tests for weight loss patients:

  • Lipid panel (cholesterol and triglycerides): This test measures the amount of lipids (fat molecules) in your blood. Specifically, we look for readings of cholesterol and triglycerides, both of which can cause your arteries and blood vessels to become blocked. It's important to monitor your lipids to lessen your risk of cardiovascular problems.
  • Complete blood count (CBC) with differential: This comprehensive test measures the levels of hemoglobin, platelets, and other substances in your blood. It also measures the number of white and red blood cells that are present, as well as the shape and size of the red blood cells. All of these measurements allow us to identify certain conditions like anemia and get a sense of your overall wellness.
  • Thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH): The thyroid is a gland in the neck that produces hormones responsible for regulating functions like heart rate, digestion, body temperature, and more. This blood test gives our staff a picture of your thyroid healthy by measuring levels of a specific hormone that triggers the thyroid into acting. An over- or underactive thyroid can impact your energy and weight loss efforts.
  • Comprehensive metabolic panel (CMP): This test measures 14 different substances and compounds in your blood, including protein, calcium, potassium, sodium, and glucose, among others. These substances all contribute to your health and metabolism.

To help combat obesity and transform lives, we are proud to offer blood tests at a more affordable rate than many other labs. Reach out to our weight loss office in Bowling Green, KY to learn more.

All of the tests offered at Doctors Diet Program are done with a blood sample. After Dr. Welch speaks with you to understand your needs and concerns, a member of our team will use a small needle to gently draw a small amount of blood from your arm. The process is very quick and not likely to hurt more than a minor sting. Test results may take up to a few days to produce, at which point our office will contact you to discuss the findings.
